What is SmokingArea

Online collaborative database of places where you can smoke. Pubs, restaurants, cafés, snack-bars. Everyone with a google account can add a new place.

Motivation

Well, firstly, a somewhat restrictive bill became law a year ago in my Country (Portugal), limiting places where people can smoke. Obviously this isn't the place to discuss this issue, but I was extremely pissed. Anyway, being a difficult country to impose laws (that limit the company's actions that is), one year later many owners just don't care, but there are quite a few places (that I used to attend) where nobody can smoke. In many other countries it's extremely worse, so here we can gather information about those few places of individual liberty.
Secondly, I'm experimenting with Google's Java App Engine.
